Abbey Chapel Restoration
St. Benedict Abbey · Appalachian Mountains, Virginia
Supporting the renovation of a 150-year-old Benedictine monastery chapel with original stone masonry and timber roof.
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Appalachian mountains, St. Benedict Abbey has been a beacon of monastic prayer and hospitality since 1876. The monks rise at 3:30 AM for Matins and spend their days in prayer, work, and sacred study. Their chapel, built by the founding monks with stones quarried from the surrounding hills, now requires significant restoration. The roof timbers, original to the structure, show the wear of nearly two centuries. Through Sanctus Mission, every cup of coffee and every artisan purchase brings this historic abbey closer to its restoration goal — ensuring another century of faithful monastic life.
