My dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, who, by the grace of God, serve the King of Kings through the blessed labors of Sanctus Mission, peace be with you this hallowed morning. As the sun ascends once more, let us recall that we yet reside within the luminous embrace of the Easter Octave, a privileged season where the triumph of our Lord Jesus Christ reverberates through creation, filling every corner of our souls with an unshakeable joy.
It is not merely a memory we keep, but a living reality we inhabit. The stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and the promise of eternal life is made manifest in the Risen Christ. This truth, so profound and utterly transformative, is the very bedrock of our faith, the spring from which all our missionary zeal and artistic inspiration flow.
The Echo of His Voice in Our Hearts
Let us cast our minds back to that first Easter morn, as recounted by the beloved disciple John. Mary Magdalene, consumed by sorrow, sought her Lord among the dead. Her tears blurred her vision, preventing her from recognizing the very One she sought, even when He stood before her. Yet, what pierced through her grief, what shattered the darkness of her despair, was not merely a sight, but a sound: the Risen Lord’s personal, tender utterance of her name, “Mary!”
In that singular word, spoken with infinite love, all was revealed. Her sorrow turned to ecstatic recognition, her doubt to fervent faith. She, who had wept at the tomb, became the Apostola Apostolorum, the first herald of the Resurrection. My friends, is this not our own journey? In the moments of our deepest spiritual desolation, in the seemingly barren landscapes of our daily toils, we too are called to listen for that Divine whisper, that personal call that reminds us: He is here, He is alive, and He knows you by name.
To truly live the Easter life is to cultivate an interior ear, ever attuned to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, ever ready to recognize the Risen Lord in the breaking of the bread, in the face of our neighbor, in the beauty of His creation, and yes, in the very work of our hands and the missions we support.
Bearing Witness to the Living Hope
The Resurrection is not an event to be hoarded, but a truth to be proclaimed. Just as the Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, fearlessly declared Christ risen from the dead, so too are we, by virtue of our baptism and confirmation, called to be witnesses. The Apostle Peter, on that first Pentecost, declared with bold conviction: “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified” (Acts 2:36).
This proclamation led to thousands being added to the Church, repentant and eager for new life. For us, in our own time, this means living in such a way that our lives themselves become a testament to the Risen Lord. Our charity, our integrity, our devotion, our pursuit of holiness, and indeed, our missionary efforts and the sacred beauty created by our artisans — all these are facets of our witness to the living hope that is Christ Jesus.
“Let no one mourn his poverty, for the universal Kingdom has been revealed. Let no one weep for his sins, for forgiveness has risen from the grave.”
— St. John Chrysostom, Paschal Homily
Let these sublime words from the venerable St. John Chrysostom resonate within your spirit. Forgiveness has indeed risen from the grave! Let this truth banish all despair and fill us with an indomitable courage to serve.
The Resurrection's Fruit in Our Labors
Our work at Sanctus Mission, whether in raising funds for the courageous souls who spread the Gospel in distant lands or in supporting the hands that craft vessels of grace and beauty for His altars, is an extension of this very Resurrection life. When we aid a mission, we are helping to plant seeds of Easter hope in parched spiritual lands. When we champion a Catholic artisan, we are fostering the creation of objects that elevate the mind and heart to God, reflecting the divine beauty of the Risen Christ.
Each rosary bead carved with devotion, each chalice hammered with skill, each mission trip funded with prayer and generosity — these are not merely human endeavors. They are acts saturated with the spirit of the Resurrection, testifying that Christ is alive and actively working through His Church in the world. They are visible signs of His enduring presence, drawing all souls towards the light that shines forth from His glorious tomb.
So, beloved brethren, let this Easter Octave be for each of us a renewed springtime of faith. Let the joy of the Risen Lord fill our every thought, word, and deed. May we be ever mindful that He walks with us, calling us by name, empowering us to be His hands and feet, His voice and heart, in a world that so desperately yearns for the radiant dawn of His hope.
O Risen Lord, who conquered death and opened wide the gates of Heaven, grant us the grace this day to walk in the newness of Your life. May our hearts burn with the ardor of Your love, and may our labors, both great and small, be ever directed towards Your glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.
