The Dawning of Eternal Life

As the sun rises on this blessed Thursday of the Easter Octave, we are invited to ponder the profound newness of life gifted to us by our Risen Lord. This reflection calls us to embrace Christ's victory over death and live each moment as a testament to His glorious resurrection, fostering hope and mission in a world awaiting His light.

My dearest brethren in Christ, as the golden light of this new day dawns, illuminating the ancient stones of our monastery and stirring the world to wakefulness, our hearts yet resonate with the triumphant Alleluias of Easter. We stand firmly within the sacred Octave, a privileged time when the Church bids us to prolong our joyful contemplation of the Resurrection. Let us, therefore, with minds fixed on Christ, turn our thoughts to the profound reality that this day holds for us.

The Unfathomable Gift of New Life

The empty tomb is not merely a historical fact; it is the wellspring of all Christian hope, the very foundation of our faith, and the promise of a transformed existence. Our Lord Jesus Christ, by His glorious Resurrection, has not simply returned to His former life, but has ushered in a new creation. He has vanquished sin and death, shattering the bonds of corruption and opening wide the gates of eternal life. This is the profound truth that should animate every beat of our hearts, every step of our walk, and every work of our hands.

Through the Sacraments, most especially through Holy Baptism, we have been plunged into this very mystery. We have died with Christ, that we might also rise with Him. St. Paul exhorts us in his letter to the Colossians: "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth." (Col 3:1-2). This is not a call to abandon our earthly duties, but to imbue them with heavenly perspective, to see all things through the prism of Christ's victory.

Our Call as Witnesses to the Risen Lord

The encounter with the Risen Christ transforms. It transformed Mary Magdalene from weeping despair to joyful messenger. It transformed the bewildered disciples on the road to Emmaus into burning hearts eager to proclaim what they had seen and heard. It transformed Peter, humbled by his denial, into the rock upon whom the Church was built. And it transforms us, His humble servants, into His hands and feet in the world.

Each day, especially during this vibrant Octave, we are called to live as witnesses to this unfading truth. Our very lives, in their purity, charity, and unwavering hope, ought to be a living sermon of the Resurrection. For how can we, who have tasted the sweetness of Christ's victory, remain silent or uninspired? Indeed, as the venerable Doctor of Grace, Saint Augustine, so eloquently proclaimed:

"We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!"

This "Alleluia" is not merely a word of praise, but the very melody of a soul set free, a song of hope that resonates through the ages. It is this very spirit that fuels the tireless work of Sanctus Mission, for what greater mission is there than to bring the light of the Risen Christ to those still dwelling in shadows?

Living the Easter Joy in Every Moment

How, then, do we sustain this sublime Easter joy amidst the mundane and often challenging realities of our daily lives? It is by constant recourse to prayer, by frequenting the Sacraments, by acts of selfless charity, and by cultivating a deep, interior life with Christ. Let us not allow the noise of the world to drown out the whisper of the Holy Spirit, who continually reminds us of the victory won for us on the Cross and sealed in the empty tomb.

Let our work, whether in prayer, study, or support of our missions, be an extension of this new life. Let every encounter be an opportunity to share, not just words, but the radiant peace and hope that flows from the Heart of the Risen Christ. May our spiritual eyes ever be fixed on Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith, who calls us to walk in the newness of life, now and unto ages of ages.

O Risen Lord, Light of the World and Conqueror of Death, fill our hearts this day with the inexhaustible joy of Your Resurrection. Strengthen us in Your Holy Spirit, that we may be true witnesses to Your triumph, spreading Your love and hope to all corners of the earth. May our lives be a perpetual Alleluia to Your glory, now and forever. Amen.
