Audio Sources & Copyright
Public provenance, copyright status, and historical preservation standards for the Sanctus Audio Library.
Our Editorial Commitment to Public Provenance
Sanctus Audio brings together timeless Catholic classics, spiritual treatises, lives of the saints, and wholesome family literature into a unified, high-quality Catholic listening experience. We believe these treasures of Christendom belong to the entire faithful and should be freely accessible to modern listeners.
1. Public Domain Recordings
The public domain audiobook recordings in Sanctus Audio are cataloged, narrated, and released by volunteer readers through LibriVox and hosted by the Internet Archive. LibriVox recordings are dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons (CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication).
We express deep gratitude to the volunteer narrators, sound engineers, and proof-listeners whose selfless labor has preserved these spoken recordings for the world. Each audiobook in Sanctus Audio provides direct attribution to its primary narrator, project identifier, and original audio source.
2. Underlying Texts & Editions
All underlying written texts and English translations curated for Sanctus Audio are verified to have been published prior to 1929 or otherwise established in the public domain under United States copyright law. Where available, digital facsimile scans from academic archives—such as the University of Toronto Robarts Library, Google Books, and Project Gutenberg—are documented in our records.
3. Original-First Cover Art Policy
We honor the visual identity and historical integrity of each work. Our cover selection follows an authoritative original-first hierarchy: (1) Suitable, rights-verified source recording cover art; (2) Suitable, rights-verified historical book cover or period illustration; (3) Sanctus Catholic Edition illuminated manuscript cover when no appropriate existing artwork is available. Wherever available, alternative editions and archival scans remain preserved and accessible to listeners.
4. Free Access & Support
All public-domain audiobooks in the Sanctus Audio Library remain 100% free to stream without mandatory subscription paywalls. Listening is supported entirely through voluntary contributions from listeners who share our mission to make sacred Catholic heritage accessible to every family.
